Capstone ? Elderly Alzheimer Disease/Dementia Analysis Lead Investigator: Shuaiyi Shi Institution : University of Michigan - Dearborn E-Mail : shuaiyis@umich.edu Proposal ID : 1226 Proposal Description: The objective is to investigate the elder care problem environment in the US, build a model to predict and analyze state wise data. More specifically, datasets containing variables such as sex, elderly patients, state, educational status, occupation, existing diseases, environment, hereditary, care giving etc. Our target about NACC dataset is to check if there are enough data of patients and questions asked about disease as like their age, sex, BMI, years of education, smoker, alcoholic, depression, head injury or any other disease as like cardiovascular that are more related to assessment of early Alzheimer or dementia for elderly people, >=65 year-old. I think they would be suitable for data mining. At the end it will be known that how many people are in which stage of dementia. So that the progression could be slow down by knowing which factor is more related to disease. We also want to explore MRI images data to see if we can detect signs of alzheimer disease and train a system through these images so that the MRI of a patient given to system and system would be able to detect that whether new patient has symptoms of alzheimer or not. In addition, we are trying to discover the relationships between some symptoms that can be considered as pre-Alzheimer by examining the development of particular symptoms relative to each other.
